Proving the nonexistence of God is not possible. Proving that something or someone does not exist just can't be done. Yet the non-existence can be assumed if the source: the witness, is shown not to be reliable. That is done by lawyers in courts of law. For instance: if a witness couldn't perceive something well, or spoke untruth on other points, or when that witness has an agenda of its own, those are good reasons to doubt the witness' reliability. And the witnesses' sayings with that.
The Bible is our most important witness. Suppose you would say: "According to the Bible God exists, but I have good reasons to doubt the Bible's reliability." Do you realize that if that were true, you would be instantly worldfamous? You would become rich by the book that you would write, and speeches and performances in talkshows. It would be huge news! But you also know that no one has ever been able to do this. For centuries it has been attempted to prove that the Bible is unreliable and that therefore God does not exist. But no one has been able to do this, and many of these people have turned into Christians by the power of what God's word told them. God is spirit and can not be examined, defined or pinned down by the means and methods of science.
Be honest and objective in looking for the truth and decide for yourself how real christianity is. God wants all people to be saved and to understand knowledge of the truth. But He does not ask for blind faith, He wants you to use your brains and insights. Like the great scientist Pascal said: Man is clearly equipped to think. That is in which all his dignity and merit lies: and all his duty is to think as he should. That means that understanding God's reality does not occur through scientific thinking from idea to idea with appropriate arguments, but by means of insight.
 The ultimate insight is the fruit of being deeply moved, of awe, praise, fear and trembling and of radical astonishment: of the realisation of greatness, of experiences that you have but cannot voice in words, of discoveries of the unknown, of moments in which you drop the pretence of knowing the world. At the zenith of such moments you get the affirmation that God is here, beyond visibility.
The Bible says: awe for God is the foundation of all wisdom and knowing God yields more insight. If you try to understand your insight and value it highly, you will understand what awe for God means. Then you will get to truly know God. The God who loves you very personally and reveals Himself to people in the person of Jesus Christ. So by being Christian one's mind is not turned off. It is not based on blind faith as generally thought, but it is the love received from God that is a condition for insight in the truth. God who proves His love for us sinners through Jesus Christ who has died for us. The whole world gains entry in one Spirit to God our Father through Jesus Christ. Did you know that? |
