Most people in the world have heard about the existence of God. To most, the word 'God' has little meaning. They don't know who God is or what He has done. They don't know anything about God's holiness, His power, or His love. They don't know whether God cares for them or not and they aren't aware of how they can get to know. Read what God has said about Himself in the Bible.
God is the Creator of the world and the Source of all life.
- "The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by hands. And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything, because he himself gives all men life and breath and everything else. (Acts 17:24-25)
We can get to know the truth about God because He has made himself known to us- in nature and in the Bible. God is invisible, but His work- everything that He has made- proves His eternal power.
- For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse. (Romans 1:20)
- In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways. (Hebrews 1:1)
God has also made Himself known to us in another way - For the most obvious manner in which He has revealed Himself is in His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. But in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe. The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. (Hebrews 1:2-3)
- No one has ever seen God, but the only Son, who is truly God and who is at the Father's side, has made him known. (John 1:18)
A few more things that God has told us about Himself. God is God alone - Do not tremble, do not be afraid. Did I not proclaim this and foretell it long ago? You are my witnesses. Is there any God besides me? No, there is no other Rock; I know not one." (Isaiah 44:8)
- Acknowledge and take to heart this day that the LORD is God in heaven above and on the earth below. There is no other. (Deuteronomy 4:39)
- I am the LORD, and there is no other; apart from me there is no God. (Isaiah 45:5)
- "Turn to me and be saved, all you ends of the earth; for I am God, and there is no other. (Isaiah 45:22)
God is Self-existent - "You are my witnesses," declares the LORD, "and my servant whom I have chosen, so that you may know and believe me and understand that I am he. Before me no god was formed, nor will there be one after me. (Isaiah 43:10)
- I am he; I am the first, and I am the last. (Isaiah 48:12)
- "I am the Alpha and the Omega," says the Lord God, "who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty." (Revelation 1:8)
- I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End. (Revelations 22:13)
God is transcendent - God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should change his mind. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it? (Numbers 23:19)
- These things you have done, and I have been silent; you thought that I was one like yourself. But now I rebuke you and lay the charge before you.(Psalm 50:21)
God is immutable - But you are the same, and your years have no end. (Psalm 102:27)
- Declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times things not yet done, saying, 'My counsel shall stand, and I will accomplish all my purpose,' (Isaiah 46:10)
- "For I the LORD do not change" (Malachi 3:6)
God is eternal - The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms. (Deuteronomy 33:27)
- Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God. (Psalm 90:2)
- Your throne was established long ago; you are from all eternity. (Psalm 93:2),
- But the LORD is the true God; he is the living God, the eternal King. (Jeremiah 10:10)
- Only God lives forever! (1Timothy 6:16a)
God is omnipresent - But will God really dwell on earth? The heavens, even the highest heaven, cannot contain you. How much less this temple I have built! (1 Kings 8:27)
- The eyes of the LORD are everywhere, keeping watch on the wicked and the good. (Proverbs 15:3)
- This is what the LORD says: "Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool. Where is the house you will build for me? Where will my resting place be? (Isaiah 66:1)
- "Am I only a God nearby," declares the LORD, "and not a God far away? Can anyone hide in secret places so that I cannot see him?" declares the LORD. "Do not I fill heaven and earth?" declares the LORD. (Jeremiah 23: 23, 24),
God is incorporeal - It is impossible for us to see God: God is invisible to human eyes. And he lives in light that no one can come near. (1 Timothy 6:16b).
- God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth." (John 4:24)
- He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. (Colossians 1:15)
- Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. (1 Timothy 1:17).
- For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. (Romans 14:17)
God dwells in the believer - I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. (Ephesians 3:17)
- There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to one hope when you were called— one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. (Ephesians 4:4-6)
- You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ. (Romans 8:9)
God is omnipotent - "Lord God All-Powerful, you have done great and marvelous things. You are the ruler of all nations, and you do what is right and fair. Lord, who doesn't honor and praise your name? You alone are holy. (Revelations 15:3-4a).
- Holy, holy, holy, LORD All-Powerful! The earth is filled with your glory. (Isaiah 6:3).
- No one can oppose you, because you have the power to do what you want. (Job 42:2)
- Our God is in heaven; he does whatever pleases him. (Psalm 115:3)
- Jesus looked at them and said, "With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible." (Matthew 19:26)
- There is one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. (Ephesians 4:6)
God knows you
- And God cares how we as people live in this world, for once everyone will be accountable to God for everything one has done. God knows everything about everybody. Nothing is hidden from God! He sees through everything, and we will have to tell him the truth. (Hebrews 4:13).
- O LORD, you have searched me and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue you know it completely, O LORD. (Psalm 139: 1-4)
God loves you and wants to relate with you as his child - You are merciful, LORD! You are kind and patient and always loving. You are good to everyone, and you take care of all your creation. (Psalm 145:8,9).
- God is love (1 John 4:8).
- The relationship between this great and holy God and our world is that God continues keeping and reigning it day by day. He is the Source of all blessings that we enjoy. God Most High is in control of all earthly kingdoms and that he is the one who chooses their rulers. (Daniel 4:32).
- There have always been proofs of His goodness: God sends rain from heaven and makes your crops grow. He gives food to you and makes your hearts glad. (Acts 14:17).
- And God is not too great to care about our needs and problems, for He cares about everything that happens on earth- even the tiniest things. Aren't two sparrows sold for only a penny? But your Father knows when any one of them falls to the ground. Even the hairs on your head are counted. So don't be afraid! You are worth much more than many sparrows. (Matthew 10:29-30).
- God wants to listen to us when we speak to Him. Our LORD, everything you do is kind and thoughtful, and you are near to everyone whose prayers are sincere. You satisfy the desires of all your worshipers, and you come to save them when they ask for help. Psalm 145:18-19).
- For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, "Abba, Father." (Romans 8:15) (Abba means "Dad")
At the same time it is not possible for us to entirely understand God and His actions: God is much greater than we can ever understand. - Who can measure the wealth and wisdom and knowledge of God? Who can understand his decisions or explain what he does? Has anyone known the thoughts of the Lord or given him advice? (Romans 11:33).
