Suppose you're on the beach and in the distance you see a capsized boat with a drowning man clinging to it. Every other minute a wave of cold water surges over him. You send a lifeboat and call out: "Help is coming, climb into the boat." Imagine him saying: "No thanks, I can manage for a while more, come back tomorrow and I'll get inside the boat and come ashore." Surely you would say: "Are you in your right mind? You can get to dry land today and now you want to stay in the water for a whole day more?"
The sage sees what must be done today, and he does it. The fool says: "Let me see, tomorrow, perhaps." God says: "Today". Man rashly says: "Tomorrow". Undoubtedly thousands of people were planning to become Christians once, but they kept saying: "Not now, not today."
But the sooner you come to Christ, the sooner you will find that delightful joy that is in Him. In Jesus there is an incomparably more delightful joy than you can find in the world, a joy that yields more contentment in every aspect. Millions of people can bear witness that they experienced that secular joy is nothing compared to the joy in Christ. Everyone who has truly found Christ will be able to tell you that joy in Christ is higher, deeper, wider and more delightful in every aspect than the joy the world renders. The sooner you come to Christ, the sooner you will be able to receive this joy.
Are you one of those people who realize that the ship of their life has been wrecked? The cold waves surge over you with all the misery of a bad conscience, the agony and the purposelessness that man experiences when living without God. Why would you want to cling to driftwood for one more night? If you climb into the lifeboat, you can come ashore right now, where you will find security and joy. Wouldn't you want to accept Christ as your Saviour today? Christ wants to take the accusations of your conscience off you, save you from sin and take away the fear of doom. You needn't even fear death, for what people call death will only mean that you are leaving to be with Christ."
