Imagine booking a holiday flight. And knowing in advance that there would be an airplane accident. The odds of crashing would be high. Would you go aboard? Or imagine making an appointment for plastic surgery. And knowing in advance that the anaesthesiologist would make a serious mistake. Wouldn't you rather keep your wrinkles?
We do so many dangerous things. We take dizzying rides in theme parks. We jump down from great heights on a parachute, or worse, tied to just a elastic cord. Or just consider participating in traffic where anything could happen. You never know the result, and yet you do it. You don't inspect the plane before flying. Neither do you check the diplomas of the anaesthesiologist. And even if you did, the end would not be secure.
It is difficult to live with so many questions. You would be in a constant state of doubt and fear. So you rely on the flight company, the precision of the anaesthesiologist and the caution of other participants in traffic. You just trust that everything will go well. You wouldn't have a life otherwise.
Consider yourself a patient suffering from a complex and life-threatening disease. You happen to know a clever doctor who says he can cure you. He spent years studying. But you cannot fathom his knowledge. So what do you do? Do you let yourself be operated on and have your life saved? Or will you study medicine and become an expert in all its different fields? In other words: you surrender to the healer without having all your questions answered, in order to live. Or won't you and do you want to know everything first so that you will die? So: will you surrender to the heavenly Healer? You wouldn't have a life otherwise. Besides, there is no risk and the result is known!
The Bible says: trust God with all your heart and do not rely on your own insight alone. Put your faith in the Lord Jesus and you will have life eternal. If you are aware of how tiny you are, God high in Heaven looks down on you lovingly. But He doesn't want to know proud people. If you are in great trouble and worry, He will hold you. He frees you by His strength. God will see to it that everything comes to a good end for you. His goodness and love are eternal. He won't let the work that He began come to a premature end.
Relying on God- do you dare?
